This one is delayed by some days, but I think that actually posting these reports at the beginning of the new term instead of at the end of the old term gives time for more reflection and better decisions.
How the last quarter went
Music
So I got this music controller I brought to the UK and indeed I used it about 3 two this quarter which is already better than nothing. Unfortunately, my musical exploration never go further than simples sketches which rot to death on my laptop.
I did not complete my goal of finishing one song and I don’t feel like doing one this term (this is about feelings, not results!), but instead I want to focus on playing more piano. Therefore, my goal is to be to play at least one of these piano pieces:

Open source
I found a project which is also worth publishing open source! The politics research project I am writing crawlers for is definitely worth a publication, so that other researchers in the are can get a head start. I like where this is going.
Cooking
Interestingly, doing a lot of philosophy this term has changed the way I think about vegetarianism. My current rule is to avoid meat as long as it is a reasonable decision. Otherwise, cooking is fun.
Sports
I have been starting up my running training and now that the date is getting closer, I need get a training plan and stick to it!
Writing
Having to write essays for University makes it kind of essay to publish random thoughts of philosophy on the blog, so that is what I have been doing. I bit of a cheat, but better than nothing!
Books
My library record for this term states 30 books and even though I only read like three of them front to back I definitely exceeded the expectations here.
Reassessment
… from now on will take place in the first 7 days of the beginning quarter.
Goals picked up last quarter
“Artificial Intelligence”
Because there is such a big buzz currently around this topic, I wanted to get my own perspective instead of having to rely on the media and scientific articles. As a consequence I got some books and I will work through them the next 9 months.
There still is a ridicules buzz around AI, but I have been able to cut through and have been reading through magazines, then articles and then papers and textbooks. My opinion is quite well summed up here: http://edge.org/response-detail/26678
I also started an online Machine Learning course which is dues to finish soon and I will be sitting in ML classes this term.
Web-Crawler
I wanted to build a software simple to use which allows to curate a lot of data of certain topics of the internet. As easy as that. And I did it or at least I started doing it. Web crawling involves a lot of different discipline, but I think it is going to be worth it. The internet is the biggest database there is. Knowing what’s going on there is more than just a competitive edge.
Statistics
Because AI involves statistics from time to time I thought I might brush up on it, so I got myself some books. I read these books or at least the parts I deemed to be useful and I definitely have better picture of it now regarding what it can do — and what not.
Mathematics
When I got the books on statistics I realised that I can also get some backgrounding maths so I got the books for the BSc Maths. Mathematics is not a simple thing and therefore it takes some time get all the things right. Especially here I want to focus on quality as doing things fast does not really lead you anywhere.
University
I am on my way to a first. Currently, my personal prediction is at a 69%, so there is still something to do.
